The Reykjavík Blues Festival - April 4th through 9th, 2009

The Reykjavík Blues Festival kicks off with „Blues Day“ – live blues in the city centre on April 4th. The Reykjavík Blues Festival’s official club, Café Rósenberg, opens at 9pm for the duration of the festival. Three evening concerts will be held at the Reykjavík Hilton Nordica Hotel on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday at 8pm.

Concert at the Hilton Nordica Hotel – Tuesday, April 7th at 8pm
Pinetop Perkins, a living legend and one of the last original Delta blues musicians still performing. He will appear with Halldór Bragason and The Blue Ice Band, Deitra Farr, KK, Nordic All Stars Blues Band and Devil’s Train. Pinetop is still touring and has received numerous awards, including the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2005 Grammy Awards. Pinetop was recently nominated for Grammy Awards for „Ladies Man“, and “Born in The Honey“, which is a chronicle of Pinetop‘s life and celebrates his 95th birthday.

Concert at the Hilton Nordica Hotel – Wednesday, April 8th at 8pm
Willie “Big Eyes” Smith, another living legend Willie “Big Eyes”, like Pinetop, played with Muddy Waters as well as with Buddy Guy, Junior Wells, Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan and Eric Clapton. Andrea Gylfadóttir and Mugison will also appear in concert.

Concert at the Hilton Nordica Hotel – Thursday, April 9th at 8pm
The Blue Ice Band, 20th Anniversary Celebration. Appearing with the Blue Ice Band are some old friends of the band: Deitra Farr, Ragnheiður Gröndal, Andrea, Davíð Þór Jónsson and many others, including the Finnskogen Blues Band from Norway.
