The coming of spring brings the Reykjavík Blues Festival
The Reykjavík Blues Festival 2010 will be held from March 27th – April 1st. The headliners of this year‘s festival are Super Chikan and the Fighting Cocks, coming straight from the heat of Mississippi; Billy Branch from Chicago and the well-known blues diva, Deitra Farr. There will be three main concerts held on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday evening. In addition to this, there will be a performance by four blues divas at the „Fríkirkja“ (in the city centre) on Palm Sunday, March 28th.
Sunday, March 28th at 20:00 – „Fríkirkja“ in Reykjavík city centre
Four divas: Deitra Farr, Kristjana Stefáns, Ragnheiður Gröndal og Brynhildur Björnsdóttir.
Tuesday, March 30th at 20:00 – Hilton Reykjavík Nordica
Deitra Farr, this outstanding Chicago blues singer will be turning up the heat at this year‘s Reykjavík Blues Festival. Deitra is the real deal and sings the blues as it should be sung. The Nordic All Stars Blues Band, which includes some of Scandinavia‘s best blues musicians, will also be performing at this concert.
Wednesday, March 31st at 20:00 – Hilton Reykjavík Nordica
Billy Branch, the legendary Chicago blues musician; former harmonica player Willie Dixon and The Chicago Blues All Stars will be performing for the first time at this year‘s Reykjavík Blues Festival. Billy Branch is one of the most popular and highly regarded blues musicians in the world today. He has been honoured with numerous awards and played with some of the most renowned blues musicians from the start. Also, singing the blues at this evening‘s concert, will be the well-known Icelandic singer, Ragnheiður Gröndal.
Thursday, April 1st at 20:00 – Hilton Reykjavík Nordica
Super Chikan and the Fighting Cocks, a group of performers coming straight out of Mississippi, is likely to bring the house down. Super Chikan is nominated for four music awards this year. He‘s a vibrant and colourful performer and seeing him in concert is a once in lifetime, unforgettable experience. The Fighting Cocks consists of three female blues musicians, LaLa Craigdelong, Heather Tackett and Jamiesa Turner.
