The Reykjavik Jazz Festival launched for the 21. time at The Culture House on August 14. at 17.00

The Swing Sextett under the direction of saxophonist Haukur Gröndal presents a program based on the Golden Age of Jazz. Haukur has among other things done tributes to the likes of Lester Young and is well versed in the fine art of Swing music. Singers are Kristjana Stefánsdóttir and Martin Roy Wade.

ADHD received the Icelandic Music Awards for their first cd which was recorded during last years Jazz Festival. This time they present new music along with their hypnotic older songs. NIls Wogram is considered one of Germany's rising stars in the jazz world. His virtuosity as a trombonist is internationally recognized and the Nostalgia trio is a favorite among many projects he has active these days.

Saxophonist Joel Palsson leads his new band in a selection og exciting new music. Ari Bragi Kárason trumpet, Eyþór Gunnarsson and Davið Þór Jónsson keyboards, Einar Scheving drums. Perico Sambeat is among the most important Spanish jazz artists these days. Here he performs with the ASA trio of Agnar Már Magnússon organ, Andrés Þór Gunnlaugsson guitar and Scott McLemore drums. La Fanfare du BelgistaN: Last chance to catch the incredible energy from the imaginary land of BelgistaN. The music is very real indeed.

Jon Hassell's work has been categorized as world-, ambient-, jazz- and minimal music. Whatever the stamp his influence on the music and musicians  of the last decade is undeniable.  His musings  with Brian Eno on music are among the topics of a talk he will give earlier in the day (free with concert ticket).  Here Hassell performs withNorwegian electronics expert Jan Bang. Icelandic guitarist Hilmar Jensson opens the show with a solo set.
