Asher Quinn (Asha)

Asha (Asher Quinn) is an internationally renowned singer-songwriter, instrumentalist and recording artist with 25 albums in his catalogue, and near a million sales world-wide since his debut, chart-topping, instrumental album Open Secret in 1987.
Asha had several other instrumental albums that topped the new-age charts in many countries, like Concert of Angels, Wings of Fire and Mystic Heart, before turning exclusively to writing and recording spiritual love ballads. His latest album O Great Spirit is being nominated for a Grammy.
His music is eclectic... sometimes classical, sometimes religious; sometimes in the folk or troubador traditions; sometimes 'pop'; sometimes new-age or ambient, and sometimes simply piano vignettes... and his compositions are tender, uplifting, full of hope, longing and mysticism.
He draws inspiration from Christian mysticism; the Sufi path; the Kabbalah; shamanic, Jungian and mythological traditions, and from contemporary singer-songwriters like Leonard Cohen. Asha himself was born Jewish, received a spiritual initiation into Sufism and yet is most at home expressing and channeling the Christ energy, esoterically, in his words and music.
"I sing, write poetry and play the piano to open my own heart," explains Asha, "and after that, I sing to express the love and longing I experience in the struggle to commune with the Divine, which I see and feel in all things. I long to reconnect my soul with Spirit. My songs are often love songs from the Self to the ego, and from Spirit to the soul. Of course, at first I sang simply to impress girls," Asha jokes.
He began playing the piano intuitively aged three, and studied literature at university before graduating as a Jungian psychotherapist. He lives in London with his wife and two sons, and has had a therapy practice for almost as long as he has had a musical career. He has also lectured in the spiritual dimensions of psychology, and has run workshops on archetypal themes such as the Divine Mother, the Eternal Child, Self, Spirit & Dreams. Part of his London training was theosophical.
Well-known tracks by Asha include the 'Missa Greca', 'Canzone Angelica', 'Soldier of love', 'Sacred heart' and 'Falling through time'. Who is he like, musically and lyrically? Well, imagine a fusion of Vivaldi, gentle Bob Dylan, Enya, Lisa Gerard and the poet William Blake, and hypnotic, passionate melodies that suggest Phillip Glass and Ennio Morricone. But all on a transcendent plane! Asha's pure, emotional, heart-centered voice is simply unique and like no-one else's, has been described as 'angelic' and 'other-worldly'.
