Mr. Destiny
Mr. Destiny is a Reykjavik based promoting company owned and run by Thorsteinn Stephensen.
The company started in January 1999 and its first job was to showcase Gus Gus’ second album “This is Normal”. The concert took place in an aircraft hanger at Reykjavik Airport, which became a legend for its spooky atmosphere in a violent snowstorm. The fact that Sigur Ros performed their first large concert there makes it an even more legendary event. Since then Mr. Destiny has been active in the Icelandic music scene, producing and promoting concerts and festivals as well as club nights.
Mr. Destiny has produced the annual Iceland Airwaves Festival since 1999 the third weekend of October. The festival is, first and foremost, a talent festival for Icelandic artists, and has thus, become an industry favorite. Iceland Airwaves has been compared to In The City festival, CMJ in New York City, with an average of 250 A&R people coming over for the festival. The festival transpires in around 15 clubs and bars in downtown Reykjavik with everything from local punk bands and bedroom dj’s to international stars.
